Visit Our Poster Stores in Barcelona and Lisbon

We've put our shops in places with a past, on streets worth a slow walk. A visit is the best way to see the posters, feel the paper, and find the one you'll want on your wall.

Prints laid out at a Moryarty vintage poster store

We have always looked for shops in places with a past. We choose historic buildings, such as a bookshop that began as a printing shop, and we choose neighbourhoods that have kept their own story, whether old streets or a former factory district. We now have five poster stores in Barcelona and Lisbon, two in Barcelona and three in Lisbon. We'd love you to come and see them.

Our Barcelona shops are in two neighbourhoods with history

Moryarty El Born is at Carrer Comerç 23, 08003 Barcelona. We're open every day from 11 am to 8 pm, including Sundays. Many shops close on Sunday, so this is a good choice for a Sunday visit.

Step out of the shop and you're in the middle of El Born, a district of narrow streets and medieval palaces. A few minutes away, Parc de la Ciutadella was created on the site of a former military fortress and laid out for the 1888 Universal Exhibition. The park keeps its exhibition landmarks: the Cascada Monumental, the Castell dels Tres Dragons and the lake. The Castell was built by Domènech i Montaner as the exhibition restaurant and has housed the Museum of Zoology since 1934. The arsenal that belonged to the old fortress still stands in the park and now houses the Parliament of Catalonia. The Arc de Triomf, built in 1888 as the exhibition's gateway, stands 30 metres high in the Neo-Mudéjar style.

The Museu Picasso fills five adjoining medieval palaces on Carrer de Montcada and has held its Picasso collection since 1963. Its permanent collection holds 4,251 works by Picasso. The palaces date from the 13th to the 15th century, and the street was home to wealthy merchants and noble families in the 15th and 16th centuries. Carrer de Montcada runs down to Plaça del Born at Santa Maria del Mar.

Close by, the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar was built between 1329 and 1383 by popular initiative in the Born district. The architects were Berenguer de Montagut and Ramon Despuig. It's pure Catalan Gothic, a single open space rather than a system of chapels.

Our other Barcelona shop, Moryarty Poblenou, is at Carrer Pujades 140, 08005 Barcelona. It's open six days a week from 11 am to 8 pm.

Poblenou was the industrial quarter of Barcelona, and the old factory buildings still give the neighbourhood its character. One of them, Can Framis on Carrer de Roc Boronat, began as an 18th-century textile factory. It reopened in 2009 as the Fundació Vila Casas museum of contemporary Catalan painting, after a renovation led by Jordi Badia. The collection covers Catalan painting from the sixties to now. We like the area because it's an old factory district that now feels like Brooklyn.

Around the Rambla del Poblenou you'll find trendy cafés and restaurants, and the sea at Bogatell beach isn't far. It's a lively part of Barcelona, and a good place to spend the afternoon after choosing a poster.

Our Lisbon shops are inside Ler Devagar and among Chiado’s historic streets

Moryarty LX Factory is at Rua Rodrigues de Faria 103, G03, 1300-501 Lisboa, on the first floor of Ler Devagar. The shop's open every day from 11 am to 8 pm.

LX Factory began its life in 1846, when the Companhia de Fiação e Tecidos Lisbonense set up a thread and fabric factory in Alcântara. The complex covers about 23,000 square metres and spent decades derelict. MainSide bought the site from the Gráfica Mirandela printing company, which was still working in one building, and turned it into a creative hub in 2008. Today the old industrial buildings hold shops, cafés and restaurants, and the site sits on the Tagus riverbank in Alcântara, near the 25 de Abril Bridge.

You reach us through one of the most atmospheric bookshops anywhere. The building began as a printing shop, and a large iron printing press still dominates the upper floor. The Financial Times and the Daily Mail have both called Ler Devagar one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world, and we're glad to be tucked inside it, among the bookshelves.

Moryarty Chiado is at Rua Nova da Trindade 5G, Espaço Chiado, Loja 19, 1200-445 Lisboa. Our third Lisbon shop, Moryarty Trindade, is also in Chiado. You can find its full address on our store locator. Both shops are open from 11 am to 8 pm and closed on Sundays.

A short walk away is Praça Luís de Camões, the square named for Portugal's most famous poet, with its monument at the centre. Rua Garrett runs through the district and is named after the writer Almeida Garrett. Livraria Bertrand stands on the same street. Café A Brasileira has stood there since 1905, and its Art Nouveau design is by Manuel Joaquim Norte Júnior. Outside it sits the bronze statue of Fernando Pessoa, made by Lagoa Henriques and placed there in 1988 to mark the centenary of his birth. It shows the writer at a café table, and the empty chair beside him is a popular photo spot.

The Carmo Convent was founded in 1389 by Nuno Álvares Pereira. On 1 November 1755, All Saints' Day, the earthquake brought the roof of its Gothic church down on the congregation, and fires burned for days afterwards. Lisbon kept the roofless ruins as a memorial, and they now hold the Carmo Archaeological Museum. You can walk from those old stones to our poster shelves in a few minutes.

We fill our shops daily so you can choose in person

Each of our five shops carries between 1,500 and 2,500 posters at any one time. That's a lot of wall art in one room, and it's there to be browsed, pulled out and compared.

We print in our Barcelona workshop every day to keep the shops full and to bring in new work. A visitor who comes back a week later will find new arrivals on the shelves.

Our catalogue holds more than 2,000 artworks, and no shop can hold every format of each one at once. We give priority to the bestsellers and the newest posters, and we keep a changing, generous selection around them.

A shop is the best place to judge our printing quality. You can touch the paper, hold two formats side by side, see the colours in daylight, and picture how a poster will look in your own room. We try to make the photographs on our website as close to the prints as possible, but nothing beats standing in front of the actual poster.

It's also the best place when you want the poster now, or need a gift that doesn't have to be ordered and waited for. You choose in person, see the print before you pay, and carry it away the same day.

Our shops have earned many positive reviews on Google Maps and Trustpilot. If you want a sense of how a visit feels before you set out, those accounts are worth a look.

Suggested posters

  • This plate of butterfly specimens, all yellows, whites, reds and blacks, shows exactly why choosing in person matters: colours and fine lines behave differently on paper than on a screen.
  • Arlington Gregg's 1939 exhibition poster puts a paintbrush standing upright in a glass at its center. This poster is a good gift for anyone who paints, and it's easy to carry away from the shop the same day.

We help you choose, frame and take home your poster

Our complete catalogue is online, with more than 2,000 posters, and the shops draw on it too. Every piece begins as an artwork found in a library, a museum, an online collection, a private collection or a market. We restore each one by hand, keeping its design and colours as close to the original as we can, then print it in our Barcelona workshop on museum-quality matte paper (230 gsm) with archival pigment inks. Our prices stay accessible because we believe art shouldn't be only for people with high incomes.

A framed print from a Moryarty vintage poster store

If you want a particular reference in a particular size or store, write to us by email, WhatsApp or phone. We can check what's available, put a poster aside for you, or arrange for it to be produced. In some shops we can print any reference in any size within the day. In the others we can usually have a poster printed and framed in whatever size you need within 48 hours. We can also produce a poster just so you can come and see it in person before deciding.

The frames are part of the visit too. We sell aluminium frames in black, white, golden and silver, pine frames in light and black, and magnetic frames in light pine, light oak, dark oak and black pine. In shops you can compare them against your poster before you choose. Some locations try to keep every type and size in stock, so what you see online is often there to handle. The frames are glazed with acrylic glass, which is light and doesn't break in transit. You can browse the classic frames, the magnetic frames, or the whole frame collection.

Poster frames at a Moryarty vintage poster store

All five shops frame posters on the spot. The frames are sold separately, and when you buy a poster and a frame together, the fitting is free. You can leave with the poster in its frame, ready to put on the wall that evening.

If you order on the website, you can choose to collect your order from one of our shops and skip the shipping fees. That's often the easiest way to combine an online purchase with a visit, and it means the poster you wanted is waiting for you when you arrive.

Every in-store poster is packed flat with rigid backing cardboard and a transparent plastic sleeve, ready to carry. All five shops sit in areas full of visitors, so we pack our posters to make them easy to travel with. If you'd rather have your posters rolled, we offer free cardboard tubes and roll them for you. Come and visit us. We're sure you won't leave empty-handed, and you can browse our selection before you set out.

Suggested posters

  • This quiet botanical print shows floating water lilies with layered green leaves and soft pink blossoms, and it suits a light pine frame. You can try that pairing in the shop before you carry it home.
  • Alphonse Berget's sequence of lunar phases, from pale white to copper red on black, is a wonderful way to judge deep blacks and exact colour on our matte paper.
  • Three bright macaws in red, blue, yellow and green are the kind of print that photographs well but deserves to be seen up close.

Did you know?

  • The 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition drew around 2.3 million visitors, and 30 countries took part.
  • As a student, Antoni Gaudí helped design the Cascada Monumental in Parc de la Ciutadella, one of his earliest works.
  • Barcelona Zoo occupies part of the Ciutadella because the 1888 exhibition left buildings empty there, and it opened in 1892 on the day of La Mercè.
  • Carrer de Montcada, the street of the Museu Picasso's palaces, was among the first roads built outside Barcelona's walls in the 12th century.
  • Strawberry Thief was one of Morris & Co.'s most expensive cottons because the dyeing process took days, yet it became one of the firm's most successful patterns.
  • Fernando Pessoa wrote under dozens of heteronyms. The empty chair beside his statue outside Café A Brasileira is often said to stand for one of them.

About the author

The Moryarty team has been finding, restoring and printing vintage posters since 2015. Our posters come from libraries, museums, online collections, private collections and markets, and each one is restored by hand before it is printed in our Barcelona workshop on 230 gsm fine art matte paper. Our prices stay accessible because art should be for everyone, not only for people with high incomes. You can see the work in our five shops, two in Barcelona and three in Lisbon.
